POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who builds, reviews, and refines production-grade software using AI-assisted development tools such as Kiro, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and similar IDE-integrated LLMs, applying Spec-Driven Development (SDD) within an end-to-end AI Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC).
This role represents a new development model for our organization. Rather than focusing primarily on manual coding, this engineer will excel at spec authoring, requirements decomposition, prompt-driven development, architectural reasoning, code review, and iterative refinement using AI as a core collaborator across the full AI-DLC — from epic-level requirements through deployment.
You will partner closely with other senior engineers, product owners, and engineering leadership to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and establish best practices for AI-augmented development across teams.
This position follows a hybrid work schedule: onsite Tuesday through Thursday, with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS AND IS NOT:
This role is:
- A senior-level engineering role with strong architectural judgment
- Focused on designing, validating, and refining AI-generated code
- Anchored in Spec-Driven Development — authoring epic-level requirements, decomposing into child specs, and driving AI agents to generate code aligned to spec
- Accountable across the full AI-DLC: pre-grooming, decomposition, design, generation, review, testing, and deployment
- Responsible for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability
This role is not
- A prompt-only or non-technical position
- A research or data science role
- A replacement for foundational engineering knowledge
Client Relationship & Service Delivery
- Serve as the senior point of escalation for complex seller issues, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication.
- Act as a consistent and trusted point of contact for assigned sellers, building confidence in the MAXEX exchange.
- Identify trends across the seller base that indicate training needs or relationship opportunities and drive targeted action.
- Provide proactive pipeline status updates to new and white glove sellers rather than requiring them to chase answers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spec-Driven, AI-Assisted Development
-
- Author and decompose epic-level requirements into structured child specs (overview, in-scope / out-of-scope, validation rules) used to drive AI tooling toward correct, test-aligned implementations
- Operate Kiro spec workflows (or equivalent) end-to-end: requirements → decomposed specs → generated stories/tasks → AI-assisted implementation, with traceability back to spec
- Design and implement software solutions using prompt-driven workflows in tools such as Kiro, Cursor, and AI-enabled IDEs
- Translate business and technical requirements into clear, structured prompts that generate reliable, testable code
- Rapidly iterate on AI-generated outputs to improve correctness, performance, and clarity
- Code Review & Quality
-
- Review AI-generated and human-written code with a strong focus on:
- Architecture
- Security
- Performance
- Maintainability
- Identify hallucinations, logical gaps, and unsafe patterns introduced by AI tooling
- Enforce engineering standards and best practices regardless of code origin
- Review AI-generated and human-written code with a strong focus on:
- Architecture & Design
-
- Collaborate on system design, breaking down complex problems into AI-friendly components
- Guide AI tools toward clean abstractions, modular design, and scalable patterns
- Document architecture and decision-making clearly for human and AI consumers
- Testing & Validation
-
- Ensure comprehensive unit, integration, and regression test coverage
- Use AI tools to accelerate test generation while validating correctness
- Own the “last mile” of confidence before production deployment
- Enablement & Leadership
-
- Partner with senior engineers to define best practices for AI-assisted development
- Help establish internal standards for prompt structure, review workflows, and guardrails
- Mentor engineers transitioning into AI-augmented workflows
- AI Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC) Stewardship
-
- Drive each stage of AI-DLC: pre-grooming, decomposition, design, generation, code review, testing, deployment, and post-deploy monitoring
- Maintain bidirectional traceability between specs, generated code, and tests (TDD) so AI-produced artifacts remain auditable against requirements
- Define and continuously refine AI prompts, guardrails, and review checklists so AI-DLC produces consistent, production-ready output across teams
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong experience building and reviewing production systems (backend, APIs, services)
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Kiro, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) as part of daily development
- Hands-on experience with Spec-Driven Development (SDD)
- Experience operating across the full AI Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC) — pre-grooming, spec decomposition, design, generation, review, testing, and deployment
- Familiarity with Kiro spec workflows (or comparable agentic, spec-aware development tools) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to reason about and debug code you did not originally write
- Strong understanding of:
- Software architecture and design patterns
- Secure coding practices
- Testing strategies and CI/CD pipelines
